Supadata is good at one thing most social APIs skip: transcribing videos that have no captions.
So the right Supadata alternative depends on why you’re leaving. If you want comments, profiles and search across many platforms, ScraperSocial or ScrapeCreators fits. For YouTube-only transcripts, TranscriptAPI is simpler. If AI transcripts for caption-less video are the reason you signed up, ScrapeCreators is the closest match. Every price below was checked on the vendor’s own page in October 2026.
Why do people look for a Supadata alternative?
Mostly for three reasons: the entry plan, the meter, and missing data. Supadata’s $5 Basic plan is billed annually and includes 300 credits a month, which don’t roll over. Its default transcript mode can switch to paid AI transcription when captions are missing. And it has no comments, no LinkedIn data and no social search beyond YouTube, so teams needing those add a second API anyway.
Here is the plan ladder, from Supadata’s pricing page on October 21, 2026:
| Plan | Price | Credits a month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 |
| Basic | $5/mo, billed annually ($60) | 300 |
| Pro | $17/mo | 3,000 |
| Mega | $47/mo | 30,000 |
| Giga | $297/mo | 300,000 |
Two details on that page catch people out. Credits “do not roll over to the next month,” and Basic is the one plan with no monthly option.
The meter is the subtle one. Per Supadata’s transcript endpoint docs, the default mode is auto, which fetches captions first and generates an AI transcript when there are none. A captioned transcript is 1 credit, but a generated one is 2 credits per minute, so a five-minute caption-less video costs 10.
Getting text for those videos is genuinely useful. It also means your bill depends on how many of your videos have captions, which you rarely know in advance. Send mode=native if you only ever want existing captions.
For many teams, the missing data is the bigger reason. Supadata’s docs describe five services: transcripts, media metadata, AI extraction, a web reader and YouTube metadata. Comments, follower counts and TikTok or Instagram search aren’t among them.
When should you stay with Supadata?
Stay if your product is built on transcripts, especially of videos without captions. Supadata reads captions on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X, generates AI transcripts when captions are missing, returns segments with millisecond timestamps, and translates. It also scrapes and crawls web pages. Few alternatives cover all of that in one key.
Its response format is a real strength. Each transcript comes back as content segments, each holding text, offset, duration and lang, so you can jump to the second a phrase was said.
Long videos switch to an async job: the request returns 202 with a job id that you poll. That’s more code, but it means hour-long YouTube videos work at all.
It’s also built for throughput. Paid plans start at 10 requests a second, Mega raises that to 50 and Giga to 100, and there are official Python and JavaScript SDKs, so batch jobs don’t need hand-rolled clients.
And at scale, the price is hard to beat. A captioned transcript is 1 credit, and the $897 Supa plan includes a million credits, under $1 per 1,000.
If that list describes your app, the rest of this post is about adding a second tool next to Supadata, not replacing it.
What are the best Supadata alternatives in 2026?
Six options cover most reasons people leave. ScraperSocial is best for social data beyond transcripts. ScrapeCreators is closest on AI transcripts for caption-less TikTok and Instagram. TranscriptAPI is simplest for YouTube alone. SocialKit covers six platforms on a larger monthly plan. Dumpling AI fits automation-heavy teams, and Apify gives the most control over each scraper.
- ScraperSocial. One API across 30+ platforms with transcripts, comments, profiles, stats and search, all inside one
{ data, meta, request_id }response shape. Transcripts read caption tracks on most platforms: TikTok transcripts cost 2 credits and work well, Instagram reels are transcribed per started minute of video (1 credit plus 20 a minute), while Facebook and X return 404 today. From $5 a month, billed monthly, with 25 free credits and failed calls never billed. - ScrapeCreators. Broad social data plus transcripts, with an AI fallback that transcribes caption-less videos up to two minutes long for a flat 1 credit. Credits come in packs that never expire, starting at $47 for 25,000.
- TranscriptAPI. YouTube only, built around transcripts, search, channels and playlists, with free upload tracking. $5 a month buys 1,000 credits; the annual plan is $54.
- SocialKit. YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn, with transcripts and AI summaries. Paid plans start at $29 a month for 12,000 credits, there’s a 20-credit free tier, and failed requests use 0 credits.
- Dumpling AI. An automation platform with YouTube and TikTok transcript endpoints alongside comments and search. Starter is $40 a month billed annually, and it charges only for successful requests.
- Apify. A marketplace of community scrapers, including several TikTok and Instagram transcript actors. Starter is $19 a month, and each actor sets its own per-result price.
Each one has a reason to skip it, too:
- ScrapeCreators returns each platform’s own field names, so you write a parser per source.
- TranscriptAPI has no TikTok or Instagram.
- SocialKit’s paid plans start at $29 a month.
- Dumpling’s Starter plan is an annual commitment.
- Apify actors are community-built, so quality and pricing vary from one to the next.
ScraperSocial’s gap is the one Supadata fills: no AI transcripts for caption-less videos outside Instagram, and no Facebook or X transcripts yet. If those matter, keep Supadata for them.
I’d shortlist two of these, not six. Most teams end up choosing between a social data API and a transcript-only one, and that choice comes from the job, not the brand.
For a deeper head-to-head on just the two of us, the ScraperSocial vs Supadata page compares capabilities and plans row by row.
How do the Supadata alternatives compare?
The real differences are what each one returns, what happens when a video has no captions, and how you pay. Supadata and ScrapeCreators both generate text for caption-less video. ScraperSocial and Dumpling return a 404 instead and don’t bill it. Only ScraperSocial, ScrapeCreators, SocialKit and Dumpling add stats, comments or profile data next to the transcript.
| Tool | Transcripts | No captions? | Beyond transcripts | To start |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Supadata | YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, files | AI transcript, 2 credits per minute | Video metadata, web scraping | Free 100/mo; $5/mo billed annually |
| ScraperSocial | TikTok and YouTube (captions) | 404, not billed | Comments, profiles, stats, search, LinkedIn | 25 free credits; $5/mo monthly |
| ScrapeCreators | TikTok, Instagram and more | AI fallback up to 2 minutes, 1 credit | Profiles, posts, ads, comments | $47 pack, credits never expire |
| TranscriptAPI | YouTube only | Not covered | YouTube search, channels, playlists | 100 free credits; $5/mo |
| SocialKit | Six platforms | Not documented | Stats and AI summaries | 20 free credits/mo; $29/mo |
| Dumpling AI | YouTube, TikTok | 404 | Comments, search, automations | $40/mo billed annually |
Prices come from each vendor’s page, checked October 21, 2026. ScrapeCreators’ pricing page didn’t load for us, so its pack price comes from its own October 14 article.
That 404 column is a trade-off, not a flaw. A generated transcript is better than nothing for a voiceover clip. But for brand monitoring or research, a clean miss you don’t pay for is often what you want, because you know exactly which videos had real captions.
Which Supadata alternative is best for TikTok transcripts?
It depends on how many of your TikToks have captions. If most do, ScraperSocial’s TikTok transcripts return clean text for 2 credits and bill nothing when captions are missing. If many are voiceovers or music without captions, pick ScrapeCreators or stay on Supadata, because both generate text from the audio. Neither choice gives TikTok timestamps from captions alone.
Caption coverage on TikTok is patchy. Apify’s content team estimated in May 2026 that roughly a third of TikToks carry no text track, mostly music-led and wordless clips.
Test your own corpus before you decide. Take 20 real URLs from your use case, run them through a caption-only endpoint, and count the 404s. A low miss rate means you’re paying for AI minutes you don’t need.
Format matters too. Supadata returns timed segments, ScrapeCreators returns WebVTT text for captions, and ScraperSocial returns one plain text string with segments: null.
For an LLM prompt or a search index, plain text saves you a parsing step. For subtitles, you want the timestamps.
Language is the last check. ScraperSocial returns the text in whatever language the captions use, with a language code and no translation. If you need English from a Spanish TikTok, Supadata’s translation endpoint does it, at 30 credits per minute.
If you work in Node, the TikTok transcript guide for JavaScript has typed code, retries and a concurrency pool you can drop in.
Which alternative covers social data beyond transcripts?
ScraperSocial and ScrapeCreators cover the most. Both return comments, profiles and posts across many platforms, so one key replaces Supadata plus a second social API. ScraperSocial adds the same response shape on every platform and LinkedIn data, while ScrapeCreators adds ad libraries and returns each platform’s own fields. SocialKit and Dumpling cover a narrower set.
Comments are the clearest gap. Supadata has no comments endpoints at all, while ScraperSocial has them on seven platforms: TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit and Hacker News.
That matters more than it sounds. A transcript tells you what a creator said; the comments tell you what the audience thought of it, and most research or monitoring jobs need both.
On one key, that pairing is cheap to price. One TikTok transcript is 2 credits and 50 of its comments are 1 credit each, so the video plus its audience reaction comes to 52 credits, about 26 cents.
The same goes for search. Supadata searches YouTube. ScraperSocial searches TikTok, Instagram, X, Reddit, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube and more, all with the same request shape.
For AI agents, check the MCP story too. ScraperSocial’s MCP server exposes search, transcripts, comments and stats as tools, so Claude or Cursor can call them without custom code.
What should you look for in a Supadata alternative?
Check five things before you commit: what happens when a video has no captions, what format the transcript comes back in, whether failed calls are billed, how the plan bills (monthly, annual, or credits that never expire), and what data you get beyond the transcript. Those five decide your real cost and your code far more than the headline price per 1,000.
Caption handling comes first because it changes everything downstream. An AI fallback gives you text for more videos and a less predictable bill. A clean 404 gives you fewer transcripts and a bill you can forecast.
Then look at the output. Timed segments suit subtitles and jump-to-moment features.
A single text string suits prompts and search. WebVTT sits in between and needs a small parser.
Billing on misses is easy to overlook. ScraperSocial, SocialKit and Dumpling say failed requests cost nothing. Supadata’s pricing page doesn’t say either way, so test it with a deleted video before you scale.
The billing shape matters as much as the rate. Supadata credits reset monthly with no rollover and Basic is annual-only. ScrapeCreators packs never expire, and ScraperSocial’s entry plan is month to month, with unused credits rolling over and never expiring.
Last, count the second API you’d otherwise need. If your roadmap has comments, follower counts or search, an alternative that includes them can replace two bills with one.
What does switching from Supadata look like in code?
Usually a one-function change. Supadata takes the video URL in a url query parameter on /v1/transcript with an x-api-key header and returns content segments. ScraperSocial takes the same url on /v1/tiktok/transcript with a Bearer header and returns one text string. Wrap both behind one function and the rest of your app never notices.
// Before: Supadataconst res = await fetch( `https://api.supadata.ai/v1/transcript?url=${encodeURIComponent(url)}&mode=native`, { headers: { "x-api-key": process.env.SUPADATA_KEY! } },);const { content } = await res.json(); // [{ text, offset, duration, lang }, ...]const text = content.map((s: { text: string }) => s.text).join(" ");
// After: ScraperSocialconst res2 = await fetch( `https://api.scrapersocial.com/v1/tiktok/transcript?url=${encodeURIComponent(url)}`, { headers: { Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.SCRAPERSOCIAL_KEY}` } },);const { data } = await res2.json(); // { text, segments: null, language, source }const text2 = data.text;Note the mode=native on the Supadata call. It’s the fair comparison: captions only, no AI minutes.
Error handling changes too. ScraperSocial returns 404 not_found when a video has no captions and doesn’t bill it, and every error carries a request_id. The errors docs list each code.
Keep a Supadata path around if some of your traffic needs AI transcripts. Route caption-less misses there and keep everything else on the cheaper caption read.
How should you test a Supadata alternative before switching?
Run 20 real URLs from your own product through both APIs and compare four things: how many came back with text, what each call cost, how long it took, and whether the output format fits your code. Twenty calls fit inside every free tier on this list, and they tell you more than any comparison page, including this one.
Pick the URLs the way your users would, not the easy ones. Include long videos, non-English videos, music-heavy clips and at least one private or deleted link, so you see how each API fails.
Then check the bill, not just the response. Note which calls were charged, especially the misses, and whether a failed request cost anything.
Get a key from the quickstart to run the ScraperSocial side. The 25 free credits cover 12 TikTok transcripts, and the misses don’t count against them.
If you’re pulling millions of transcripts a month from one platform, price Supadata’s top tiers against a bulk provider too. At that volume, the per-credit rate matters more than anything else in this post.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best alternatives to Supadata?
It depends on what you use Supadata for. For social data beyond transcripts, such as comments, profiles and search, ScraperSocial or ScrapeCreators. For YouTube-only transcripts, TranscriptAPI. For several platforms with summaries on a bigger monthly plan, SocialKit. For full control, an Apify actor. If you rely on AI transcripts for caption-less video, ScrapeCreators is the closest match.
Is there a free alternative to Supadata?
Not a hosted one with no limits. ScraperSocial gives 25 free credits to test, TranscriptAPI gives 100, and SocialKit gives 20 a month. The truly free route is open-source tooling you run yourself, such as a downloader plus Whisper for speech-to-text, which costs nothing per call but means hosting, maintenance, and making sure you have rights to the audio.
Which Supadata alternatives have an official MCP server?
ScraperSocial runs a hosted MCP server at mcp.scrapersocial.com that exposes search, transcripts, comments and stats to any MCP client, and TranscriptAPI ships one for YouTube. Supadata has its own MCP server too, so an agent can use it next to an alternative. Check each vendor’s docs for the current tool list, since MCP surfaces change often.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Supadata?
Per captioned transcript, rarely: Supadata charges 1 credit, and its larger plans bring credits under a dollar per 1,000. Where alternatives save money is the entry plan and the billing shape. ScraperSocial’s $5 plan is billed monthly with 1,000 credits that never expire, against Supadata’s annual-only $5 Basic plan, and ScrapeCreators packs never expire either.
Can I get TikTok transcripts without captions from a Supadata alternative?
Only from some. ScrapeCreators offers an AI fallback that transcribes caption-less TikToks up to two minutes long for 1 credit. ScraperSocial reads caption tracks only, so a caption-less video returns 404 and costs nothing. If most of your TikToks are music or voiceover without captions, pick a provider with an AI fallback.
Can I use Supadata and ScraperSocial together?
Yes, and it’s a sensible split. Use Supadata for caption-less transcription, translation and web crawling, and ScraperSocial for comments, profiles, LinkedIn and cross-platform search. Both expose MCP servers, so an AI agent can call both in one session, and each bills only for what you use it for.
Test it on your own videos
Pick 20 URLs from your real workload, run them through Supadata and one alternative, and compare the hit rate and the bill side by side. If comments, profiles or search are on your roadmap, run those calls too, since that’s where a second API shows its value. Get a free key and start with the URLs you already have.
